BAYC Member #3833 — Life goal achieved (2022 Update)
So, if you don’t know me, then “Hi, my name is Rich Edmondson; I am known as The metaverse Consultant, the NFTSommelier, and the owner of BAYC #3833.
I started in the NFT world in early 2021 and have worked my way through the maze of crypto and NFTs that we all explore on a daily basis.
I was a fool earlier in 2021 and turned down the opportunity to mint 2 Bored Ape Yacht Club apes. I will struggle to forgive myself for this decision. I missed an open door to a community of amazing people, that I didn’t understand the value of at first.
But what is the Bored Ape Yacht Club?
The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is a collection of 10,000 ape NFT’s on the Ethereum blockchain. Each Bored Ape has unique traits, with some characteristics being rarer than others. Bored Apes were minted for 0.08 ETH each in April 2021.
Four pseudonymous founders created the NFT collection via their company Yuga Labs in 2021. The founders of BAYC are known as Gargamel, Gordon Goner, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, and No Sass.
Each Bored Ape comprises seven possible traits, including background color, clothes, earrings, eyes, fur, hat, and mouth.
Sounds pretty simple, right, and something that would be just another piece of art, right? Yeah, that’s what I thought!
I didn’t think back then that a picture of an ape with accessories would have taken off. I saw it as just another cool piece of art that entered the space. How wrong I was!
Nonetheless, I battled through, watching the floor get further and further from my grasp, wondering if I would ever be able to get my hands on one of these elusive apes.
I bought up other pfp projects to see if they were going the same way, but I just ended up collating a very nice-looking wallet of assets. Sadly, none had the ‘ape’ factor.
I traded, swapped, and fought my way through every opportunity that was presented, and finally, I worked hard enough to break through the smog and emerge victoriously.
So, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of my family, my pfp, my persona, my dream, my reality.
Welcome to the family BAYC #3833 A.K.A. Tex
This ape is far more than just a cool-looking NFT; it means a potential foot in the door of one of the most vital communities known to Web3 and now Web2. As a member of the Yacht Club, you get to mingle with other Bored Ape owners via the BAYC Discord group and real-life events. Additional benefits for Bored Ape Yacht Club members include:
· Access to additional NFT airdrops
· Real-life events with celebrity guests and performers
· A Copyright license for commercial use, allowing you to monetize your Bored Ape
· Access to The Bathroom, a collaborative art piece
· Access to the Apes vs. Mutants Mobile Game
· There’s also been rumors about a potential “Ape Coin” token airdrop for BAYC holders.
So, in my mind, I have achieved a feat that not many have managed to do. I’m not one of the whales, I’m not one of the lucky few with a super rare ape, nor am I a celebrity with an extreme following. I am a regular guy, a father, and a guy who kicked his booze and drug habit saved his cash and invested in something extraordinary. I’m not lucky; I’ve worked hard for this. Some people dream of Lambos, Vettes, and Teslas. We dream of jpeg Apes!
My daughter loves Tex and has picked out my car in car parks based on the stickers on my rearview window. She has stickers of Tex stuck all over her scooter and school books. My parents, friends, and ex-colleagues, now realize that the “picture of the monkey” I have as a pfp, is a serious piece of art, has real-world value, and a whopping ROI.
Mutants are insane!
The Bored Ape Chemistry Club dropped on Aug. 28th and consisted of 10,000 Mutant Serums, which were airdropped to all Bored Apes. With 7,500 M1 serums, 2,492 M2 serums, and eight super-rare M3 or Mega Mutant serums.
My mind went to, which one of the serums was I going to get? Well, as luck has it, I was airdropped an M2 serum! Holy Shit! But what to do? Sell it, HODL it, or Drink It?
I did nothing, until October 20th, 2021. As Halloween loomed, Tex felt that a mutated brother was needed to complete the set. I wasn’t in a position to buy a BAKC doggo, so a mutant companion seemed the logical thing to do.
It was an exhilarating experience, that was cleanly performed on the BAYC site, and in a moment I’ll never forget Tex and I welcomed “Xet” into the family with open arms.
The exquisite drip of slime gurgling out of his chin, the savagery of the alligator teeth gnashing at the onlookers who gasp in fear at his eye-riddled puffer jacket. He was perfect. (However, my daughter is not a fan of this NFT, she says it’s too scary, she prefers Tex.)
So, where are we at today?
At the current time of me writing this (February 2022) the floor price for a Bored Ape on Opensea is currently floating between 99–100 ETH.
When you take the current price of Ethereum ($3,155), that means that the cheapest Bored Ape costs you $315,500. The high price tag for a Bored Ape is one of the reasons why it has attracted so much attention from the media, celebrities, and institutional investors.
So, reader, that’s where I’m going to leave you. I’ll be back and I’ll let you know how it’s going in due course.
More to come soon…
